New Kiln Fires Up Lower School

Thanks to a generous gift from the Parents' Association, the Lower School art program is receiving a kiln room. Crews have been hard at work all summer adding a new space to the Lower School fine arts wing where the new kiln now resides. A paved patio area is also being constructed just outside the kiln room, where fresh works of art will be displayed and stored.

The new kiln will greatly improve the art program, as noted by fine arts teacher Alice Oltrogge, holder of the Ackerman Family Master Teaching Chair in Lower School. Before, Lower School clay and ceramics projects had to be carted across campus to the Upper School ceramics room, then fired, cooled, and brought back. Now, students will be able to create works of art without leaving their building.
