Clothing Drive Successfully Concludes

The Community Service clothing drive ended with a bang on the morning of September 21, after two weeks of donations. Dozens of bags of gently used clothing came close to overflowing the student waiting area in Nearburg Hall. When the final count was tallied, the St. Mark's community donated more than 5,700 pounds of clothing.

Many of the clothes will be donated to the Austin Street Centre and will be used as part of the initial stock for the shelter's new boutique thrift store, which generates additional funds for the program.

In an effort to keep the drive truly local, some of the clothes will also be delivered to North Dallas Shared Ministries, which serves low income individuals in the North Dallas area.

Student volunteers were out every morning over the last two weeks, using bullhorns to remind classmates about donating. For the first time, students also took time each day to sort through the donations, saving the charities extra labor.
