Yearbook dedicatee revealed

History and Social Sciences instructor Michele Santosuosso was announced as the 71st recipient of the Marksmen yearbook dedication at the annual Marksmen Ball at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion in downtown Dallas Saturday night.

“Mrs. Santosuosso’s complete dedication to us as students goes above and beyond what is required of her,” yearbook editor Jack Cohen ’23 said in announcing her as the dedicatee. “Her office is always open, and I know hundreds of students who have gone in there in the darkest of times and come out with a plan. She was always cheering us on and making us push ourselves to be the best men we possibly could be. While we are fortunate to have all the teachers we do at St.Mark’s, her authentic advice and honesty were an always-welcome wave of relief.”

Besides being a member of the History and Social Sciences Department, Santosuosso serves as Student Council sponsor and received the Ralph B. Rogers Alumni Award last school year.

In part, the dedication page reads: "While two pages will never be enough to commemorate her incredible impact on students, hopefully, it can show how thankful we are for her. Without her guidance, the success of so many students would be unattainable. As a student body, we thank you Mrs. Santo, for everything you've done for us. We'll never forget your effect on our lives."

This yearbook dedication tradition, which dates back to 1950, is the only faculty award given expressly by students. Members of the senior class nominate three faculty or staff members in the fall, with the final selection made by senior members of the yearbook staff.

Sixty-seven individuals — including headmasters and benefactors, coaches and food service personnel and classroom teachers and department heads — have been honored through the years.
