Alumni Return to Reconnect & Mentor

Several generations of graduates returned to campus to attend College-Age Marksmen Day, an event that connects recent grads and established professionals with classmates, faculty, and current students. Alumni gathered for a luncheon, visited faculty and friends, and shared insights and wisdom with current students.

“This event exists to help younger Marksmen following in the footsteps of our graduates,” said  Alex Eshelbrenner ’04, Ahlberg & Ribman Family Director of Alumni Relations. “Established alumni professionals spoke to college-age Marksmen about how to best establish themselves professionally upon graduation. Those college students then chaired a panel discussion with Upper School boys about how to successfully transition from St. Mark’s to the University of their choosing. It’s inspiring to watch Marksmen helping Marksmen at every age – and stage – of life.”

The panel discussion allowed college students to ask questions and glean knowledge from established professionals in fields such as Medicine, Finance, Law, Marketing, and Technology.

“When I was a student, as well as an alum, there have been countless older alumni who have given me advice, help, or just a friendly chat because of the St. Mark’s connection,” said panelist Kace Phillips ’04. “I feel it is my obligation to continue that tradition and pay it forward by helping others.”

Later in the day, several recent graduates shared their experiences and a glimpse into college life in a panel discussion for Upper School students. The boys covered topics including what to expect during your first semester, how to manage your time effectively, and figuring out what your major should be.

“When I attended events like this as a student, I think I felt a mix of admiration and intimidation,” said Robert Pou ’21, a freshman at Georgetown University. “After just one semester in D.C., I realize I had nothing to fear. I was ready for the transition. St. Mark’s prepared me, and, hopefully, events like these help current students realize that they will be prepared too.”
