Lion Sports Update (10/12)
FOOTBALL
On Friday night, the Lions’ football team hosted Houston Christian and earned their first SPC 4A divisional win of the season, 56-10. It took a complete team effort. The Lions’ defense created six turnovers, including five interceptions (one for a TD) and a fumble recovery. Offensively the Lions’ rushed for 337 total yards, highlighted by senior Niles Harvey’s 233 yards and 5 TD runs. QBs Alex Nadalini and Asher Wilburn also connected in the air to Conor Duffy and Blake Malouf, respectively, for scores. The 5-1 Lions make their final Houston trip of the season this Friday when they take on undefeated St. John’s.

CROSS COUNTRY
The Lions traveled down to Tomball, Texas, to run in the St. John’s Maverick Ramble this past Saturday. The team fared very well, even without top runner Sahil Dodda out because of illness. The team was led by super sophomore Raja Mehendale, who finished 4th overall with a PR of 16:15. He was followed by Clark Cooper (17th), Trey Stager (21st & PR of 17:10), Asa McCaleb (23rd), Parker Steinbrueck (28th & PR of 17:29), Sky Park, Fisayo Omonije, Bryce Nivet, Shaan Mehta, Adam Wang, Zach Lightfoot, and Arjun Khatti. The team finished second to Antonian College Prep. There is no “official meet” this week, but the team will train, using Saturday to incorporate a long tun with a 2 mile run at Greenhill in preparation for the SPC North Zone Meet on Friday, October 22.
VOLLEYBALL
The varsity volleyball team had one counter match last Tuesday at Trinity Valley. The Lions and Trojans played a very tight match, but unfortunately for the Lions, more breaks went the Trojan’s way in the match. Final: SM 1 – TVS 3. The team takes the court twice this week in two SPC North Zone counter matches, facing Ft. Worth Country Day at home on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m and then at Greenhill for their Homecoming game on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
Pablo Arroyo ’20, a member of the MIT Engineers Cross Country team, finished 23rd overall (153 runners) as the Engineers took 2nd place in the Williams College Purple Valley XC Invite on September 25.
