Lions Sports Update (08/31)

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team traveled to Norbuck Park to compete in the Greenhill Relays invitations. The team was split into two relay groups, both of which placed in the Top 5.

Group A (Sahil Dodda ’22, Raja Mehendale ’24, Clark Cooper ’24, and Asa McCaleb ’24) took 2nd Place. Sahil set yet another school record, this time on the 1.5 miles, leading the group with a 7:16. Raja ran 8 minutes flat, Clark ran 8:05, and Asa ran 8:12. For Group B (Bryce Nivet ’22, Zach Lightfoot ’22, Parker Steinbrueck ’24, and Arjun Khatti ’23), Bryce led the way running 8:00. Zach ran 8:09, Parker ran 8:14, and Arjun ran 8:17. As a group, they finished 5th overall! In addition to those groups, Cal Graham ’22 set a PR by over a minute, running 8:47. Congrats to him and the rest of the team. The Lions are off to a strong start, and the runners race again this coming Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Lovejoy XC Festival at Myers Park in McKinney.

Football
The Lions kicked off their season by bringing home a win from Fort Worth Country Day. After a slow start, the varsity team started clicking on both sides of the ball. The Lions went into halftime with a 14-6 lead, thanks to a quarterback sneak from Asher Wilburn ’23 and a deep touchdown pass to Blake Malouf ’23 on 3rd-and-long. After allowing an early touchdown, the defense also stepped up, as both Zack Stone ’22 and JJ Pennington ’23 got huge takeaways.

The Lions kept on rolling in the second half, as Wilburn and Niles Harvey ’22 punched in two more rushing touchdowns and Conor
