Lions Prepare for Fall

This summer, several members of St. Mark’s varsity football team traveled across the country to participate in college football camps. These Lions had the opportunity to train with and receive instruction from some of the nation’s top athletes and coaches. Senior captains Connor Duffy ’22 and Alex Nadalini ’22 visited Yale, Dartmouth, and Columbia.

“Connor and I had a great time at the camps,” said Alex. “It was cool attending them as a quarterback and receiver duo. When we were able to get reps together, we felt like our time developing good chemistry with each other back in Dallas helped us perform better.”

In addition to the two captains, Aaron Greenburg ’23 attended Yale and Northwestern University camps, while Nolan Marcus ’24 attended a Dartmouth camp. Both athletes said they felt great about their performance and were confident it will carry over into a successful season for the Lions.

The football team just finished their summer strength and conditioning training and are enjoying an off week before two-a-days start on August 2. Senior Captain Elijah Ellis, who led the team in the weight room with a 470-pound squat and 300-pound bench, said, “I feel good about where the team is at strength-wise, and I am excited about the upcoming season.”

In just under a month, the Lions will hit the field under the new leadership of Head Coach Harry Flaherty.

“We had a huge number of guys constantly participating in summer workouts,” Coach Flaherty said. “Coach Dilworth has done a fantastic job getting these boys ready for training camp, and the boys have done a great job supporting each other. I can’t wait to get the season started."

The fall sports season kicks off Friday, August 27, with a football game at Ft. Worth Country Day.
