Alum Wins World Cup

In a stadium halfway around the world, Team USA defeated France to secure the 2021 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. As confetti rained down, Harrison Ingram ’21 took his turn hoisting the gold trophy, capping off an incredible performance on the international stage just weeks after graduating from St. Mark’s.

“I could not be more proud of Harrison,” said Greg Guiler, St. Mark's Head Varsity Basketball Coach. “He has always been one to seize every opportunity possible, but the fact that he represented Team USA as the youngest U19 participant alongside so many other accomplished rising stars speaks volumes about his maturity on the court and unlimited potential.”

The FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup is a men’s under-19 only world basketball competition organized by the International Basketball Federation. Harrison is one of just six incoming freshmen to make the USA U19 roster, and he becomes the first St. Mark’s player to ever do so. The USA Men's U19 World Cup training camp began June 20 with 26 athletes. The next day, 21 finalists were named. The official team, including Harrison, was selected following ten training sessions held at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.

On July 3, Team USA arrived in Latvia, the northern European county hosting the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup. The United States dominated their initial pool, beating Turkey 83-54, Mali 100-52, and Australia 87-66. In bracket play, the USA team beat South Korea 132-60 in the round of 16, Senegal 88-58 in the quarterfinals, and Canada 92-86 in the semi-finals. In the Gold Medal matchup, team USA faced off against France. The thrilling matchup came down to the final seconds, but team USA was able to close it out 83-81 to win the gold.

Harrison excelled as a basketball player at St. Mark’s, leading the Lions to an SPC title in 2020. He earned McDonald’s All-American honors his senior year and will be joining Stanford University’s Men’s Basketball Team as a five-star recruit and the top-ranked signee from the state of Texas.

CBS 11 News greeted Harrison and his fellow North Texas teammate after they landed at DFW.
