Young Alumni Give Back

On Thursday, July 8, young alumni returned to campus to give back to the community. The Young Alumni Community Service Event brought together members of the Classes of 2018-2021, as well as several current and retired faculty members. In the Great Hall, they packaged more than 500 lunches and delivered them to Austin Street Center, a south Dallas homeless shelter.

“Since graduating, I've felt even more compelled to give back to my community,” said Robert Pou ’21. “The people that make up the St. Mark's community have given me so much — whether it's the teachers, coaches, parents, or even my classmates — and I just want to continue paying their generosity forward."

Alumni enthusiastically agreed to serve the meals when given the opportunity. Blake Hudspeth ’21 volunteered and gave a blessing over the meal when offered by a shelter administrator. Dozens of clients expressed their appreciation for the volunteers with a personal ‘thank you’ and several rounds of applause as meals were handed out.

“The School’s relationship with Austin Street has always been a special one,” said Cristian Pereira ’21. “When Marksmen of all ages support the great work that Austin Street does, it not only helps those in need but also enriches the lives of the students and alumni."

St. Mark’s has maintained a strong relationship with Austin Street Center with Marksmen regularly volunteering and serving meals. In May, the Junior Class presented Austin Street with more than $18,000 raised through this year’s McDonald’s week.
