Yearbook Dedicated to School Nurse

At Marksmen Ball on Saturday, May 22, the journalism staff unveiled the 2021 issue of the Marksmen yearbook, as well as its dedicatee. For her tireless efforts keeping the entire community safe and healthy, the Marksmen staff dedicated their yearbook to School Nurse Julie Doerge.

“During an unpredictable time, Nurse Julie fought to go above and beyond the normal call of duty,” said Josh Mysore ’21, editor-in-chief of this year’s Marksmen yearbook. “Summer planning for COVID-19 mitigation increased her responsibility, and honest work became her mantra. Nurse Julie took on the challenge, braved rigorous testing, pioneered our safety on campus, and, ultimately, served the School’s mission and made this place what it is.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Nurse Julie has worked nonstop, serving as a key member of the School’s Medical Advisory Committee and Reopening Team, advising students and teachers on how to stay safe, and keeping parents informed through regular communications. She has also served the broader community as part of Dallas County’s school health team.

Nurse Julie’s yearbook dedication reads, in part: “She could not foresee this year. But she could take matters into her own hands, her own power. She knew there would be trial, sorrow, and change. But she braved the storm, and she embraced the fight. Nurse Julie took a global pandemic head-on.”
