Alumni Service Medal Recipient Announced

The Alumni Association of St. Mark’s School of Texas traditionally honors outstanding graduates during the spring Alumni Weekend. While this year’s recipients will be honored during the rescheduled Alumni Weekend on October 21–23, 2021, the School will be announcing those recipients online throughout the month of April.

In recognition of his lifelong service to St. Mark’s, David Sammons ’76 has been awarded the 2021 Alumni Service Medal. For more than a decade, David has been an active member of the Board of Trustees. He has served on the Finance Committee since 2013 and was a member of the Education Committee from 2011-2012. As a founding member of the New York Regional Club, David has also served on the New York Regional Committee since the Club’s inception in 2006. David helped launch the Centennial Challenge as part of the East Coast Launch Committee and spoke as the Alumni Weekend Chapel Homilist in 2015.

“What makes David special is his continued and historic involvement while being based in the New York area,” said Alex Eshelbrenner ’04, Ahlberg and Ribman Family Director of Alumni Relations. “He makes coming home to Dallas a priority, and he remains actively engaged while thousands of miles away from campus. He is one of the most selfless alums within our community and his support is genuinely rooted in advancing the mission of the School.”

Following his time as a student at St. Mark’s, David received a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980, and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1988. David and his wife Diane are the parents of three children: Austin, Elizabeth, and Avery.

“We are very excited to honor David Sammons as the winner of this year’s Alumni Service Medal,” said Michael Flanagan ’90, Alumni Awards Committee Chair. “We recognize David for his unparalleled involvement and consistent dedication to the school, especially for an alum located outside of Dallas. Whether it be through an inspiring chapel talk or years of consistent service to the school, we know David’s example will continue to motivate all alums and expand the scope of and set the standard for what is possible for alums outside of Dallas.”
