Regular COVID-19 Testing Begins

Beginning in July, St. Mark’s implemented COVID-19 testing for faculty and staff taking part in the Class of 2020 Commencement ceremony. In preparation for the beginning of on-campus instruction in September, more than 200 tests have been administered to returning faculty and staff through SafeWork.

“St. Mark’s Reopening Planning Team has worked throughout the summer to prepare for the return of students and teachers, using recommendations from the CDC, TEA, Dallas County Health and Human Services, and other public health resources,” said St. Mark’s School Nurse Julie Doerge, who also serves on the Dallas County Health Department’s School Team. “We feel it is important to offer COVID-19 testing to all faculty and staff and plan to continue this practice throughout the year.”

After St. Mark’s transitioned to remote learning in March 2020, the School has taken extraordinary measures to prepare for the return of students and teachers. This summer, the School’s Physical Plant Team oversaw extensive upgrades to the air filtration systems, bringing all filters on campus up to hospital-grade MERV 13 standards. All water fixtures have been upgraded to touchless models, including touchless water bottle fill stations installed in place of drinking fountains. Cleaning crews regularly disinfect all offices, classrooms, and common spaces.

When on-campus classes resume, faculty and staff will continue to receive regular COVID-19 tests and be required to complete a health screening through the SchoolPass smartphone app every day before coming on campus. Click here to visit the School’s Preparing for 2020-2021 webpage and read the comprehensive list of guidelines and procedures put in place to ensure the health and safety of everyone on campus.

“As you know, this is a very fluid situation, and our Health Team will continue to monitor the most up-to-date public health guidelines as they unfold,” said Nurse Julie. “And we will rely on the three W’s throughout the year: wash your hands, wear your mask, and watch your distance.”
