Honoring Scholastic Achievement

On April 15, 2020, eighteen members of the Class of 2020 were elected into the St. Mark’s School of Texas Chapter of the Cum Laude Society. These Marksmen were selected for the exceptional academic achievement demonstrated over the course of their four years in Upper School. Modeled after the renowned university honor society Phi Beta Kappa, the Cum Laude Society recognizes students who have demonstrated high academic achievement and a passion for learning, as well as character, honor, and integrity.

The eighteen seniors inducted into the St. Mark’s chapter of the Society: Sam Ahmed, Andres Arroyo, Pablo Arroyo, Faraz Asim, Colin Campbell, Tony D’Apice, Christian Duessel, Ishan Gupta, Benjamin Hao, Devan Patel, Eddie Raj, Matthew Raroque, Neal Reddy, Sahitya Senapathy, Nicholas Tsao, Christopher Wang, Tianming Xie, and Austin Zang.

"We are all incredibly proud of these boys and value their academic achievements and contributions," said David W. Dini, Eugene McDermott Headmaster. "These Marksmen consistently demonstrated the highest levels of excellence and rigor, among an exceptionally strong collection of well-rounded scholars across the class of 2020. Congratulations to these boys on this richly-served recognition, and to all of our seniors for striving for excellence.”

Founded in 1906, the Cum Laude Society recognizes achievement in secondary schools for the purpose of promoting excellence, justice, and honor. Collectively, the Class of 2020 has embodied these traits, and the eighteen young men inducted into Cum Laude are emblematic of the overall strength of the class. The School congratulates these inductees on earning Cum Laude and, moreover, for demonstrating hard work, humility, and determination throughout their time at St. Mark’s.

Since receiving its Cum Laude Society charter in 1959, the St. Mark’s School of Texas chapter has inducted more than 560 men, a legacy commemorated in the Cum Laude stained glass window in the narthex of the St. Mark’s Chapel.
