Alumnus Leads Chiefs to Super Bowl Victory

After staging an incredible fourth-quarter comeback against the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, the team's first championship victory in 50 years. Soon after the game ended, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell presented the Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy to Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt ’83, who also serves as President of St. Mark’s Board of Trustees.

“To the Chiefs Kingdom, you guys are world champions once again!” Clark told the crowd. Later, he was asked how his father, professional football pioneer and founding Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, would have felt about this victory. “The Super Bowl is so connected to my father in terms of his career. I know that what he would have been happiest about is winning it for our fans. My family and I thought a lot about him today, but he would have been thinking about the fans.”

During the postgame Lombardi Trophy presentation, Clark was joined on stage by his mother, Norma Hunt, who has attended every Super Bowl since its inception. Two weeks ago, the Hunt family accepted the Lamar Hunt AFC Championship Trophy on behalf of the Chiefs.

The Norma & Lamar Hunt Family Stadium at St. Mark’s honors the family’s deep commitment to our School. Norma and the late Lamar were active members of the St. Mark’s community for more than four decades. Lamar served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1999 and was appointed as a Life Trustee in 1999. Lamar Hunt, Jr. is a member of the Class of 1975. Dan Hunt, a member of the Class of 1996, serves as President of FC Dallas and Vice President of Hunt Sports Group and is a member of the St. Mark’s Board of Trustees. Clark’s son Knobel is a member of the junior class at St. Mark’s.
