Lion Sports Update 9/16

Football
The varsity football team hosted Casady from Oklahoma City this past Friday. The Lions’ stifling defense combined with an efficient offense helped St. Mark’s to a victory (26-0) and a 2-0 start to the 2017 campaign. Senior Matthew Fornaro had a career game with 3 touchdowns (2 receiving and 1 rushing), 113 yard receiving, and 29 yards rushing. Junior Jonathan Taylor led the Lions in rushing with 124 yards (7.29 yds/att) and junior Colin Neuhoff led the Lions in passing with 175 yards and 2 TDs. Sophomore Colin Campbell added two FGs of 24 and 38 yards. This Friday, the Lions will travel to Episcopal High School in Houston to take on the Knights. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

Volleyball

The varsity volleyball team played two matches last week. On Tuesday, the Lions traveled to Ft. Worth Country Day and beat the Falcons 3-0. On Friday, the Lions hosted Casady on All-School Spirit Night. The team improved upon their results against Casady the last time out, but still fell short 0-3 (21-25, 16-25, 21-25).

Fencing
The varsity fencing team has been preparing for the St. Mark’s Open, which St. Mark's is hosting in Spencer Gym on Saturday, October 7. This will be both a Middle School and varsity event with the “13 & up” athletes competing in the afternoon between 12:00–4:00 p.m.

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team was off this past weekend. They race again on Saturday at the Lovejoy XC Festival at Myers Park in McKinney, TX. The varsity race is at 9:00 a.m. and the MS race is at 11:30 a.m.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
Nathan Ondracek ’15, a member of the Harvard Water Polo team, has had a strong start to his junior season for the Crimson. Nathan is currently 2nd on the team in steals (13), and has 7 goals and 10 assists through 10 games.
Ty Montgomery ’11 had 2 TDs (1 rushing and 1 receiving) for the Green Bay Packers in their loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. He also added 110 all-purpose yards for the Packers.
