Locker Room Renovated

As the Lions prepare for the fall season, athletes received an exciting preview of their new locker room. Thanks to a generous donor, crews spent the summer completely renovating one of the locker rooms in the Hicks Athletic Center, which will provide in-season athletes a more fresh and clear area to prepare and recover from practices and games, along with more individual space and comfort.

The new room includes 116 lockers, 60 of which include a forced-air ventilation system built into the storage area to quickly dry out shoes and uniforms. Each locker features a cushioned seat, electronic combination lock, power supply, and custom nameplate. The room also includes a hydration station, updated showers, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial carpet, new lighting elements, and specially designed lacrosse stick holders. The large, open layout will be significantly more functional for team gatherings during pre-game, halftime, and post-game meetings.

While showing the space to students, Associate Athletic Director Josh Friesen told the boys, “We want your time at St. Mark’s to be phenomenal. Remember, it’s not just about winning – it’s about becoming men of character and better leaders. We hope that this space will help keep the excitement going and encourage you to be your best throughout the season.”

The Lions put the new locker rooms to good use at they kicked off the 2019–2020 season. In their first home gaming suiting up in the new locker rooms, the varsity football team won 37–7 against Cistercian.

“The boys are enjoying the benefits of these new upgrades, and their excitement, energy, and enthusiasm is definitely palpable,” said Athletic Director Sean Lissemore. “The locker room has now become the ideal place for student-athletes to congregate, and there has been a very positive response to the improvements in the Mullen Family Fitness Center as well as the new bleachers and sound system.”
