8 lane Tartan surface is very fast. The Long/High Jump and Pole Vault are the same surface. The Shot Put and Discus are brushed concrete. Javelin runway is grass.

  • John Turek

    Meet Director 

    John has been coaching for 35 years. As a collegiate coach he produced 68 All-America’s, 9 NCAA Champions, 4 Collegiate Record Holders, 7 Olympic Trials Qualifiers, 2 USATF National Champions, and 1 Olympian. Now, at the High School and Club Level, he has enjoyed the same success. Some of his athletes are Loren Leaverton (3-time All-American), Kristal Walton, Diana Pickler (Jr. Nat’l Champ), Julie Pickler (Jr. Nat’l Champ), Kristina Shelton (Jr. Nat’l Champ), Erica McLain (Jr. Nat’l Champ),and Jordan Mumford (All-American). He is a USATF Level II Certified Coach in the jumps. He has a Masters Degree in Biomechanics and has authored a book on the javelin.
  • Richie Mercado

    Junior’s/High School Program Coordinator

    Richie has been coaching at St. John’s (Houston) for 30 years. He has coached sprinters, jumpers, throwers, and vaulters during that time. A former decathlete at Univ. of Virginia, he is also a USATF Level II Certified Coach in the jumps and a frequent Level I Instructor in biomechanics, jumps and throws. He has served as an instructor for the Women’s Jr. Elite Horizontal Jumps Camp. He has also worked with several national class junior athletes in the horizontal jumps and pole vault.
  • John Green

    Combined Events Coordinator

    John has been teaching track & field since 1974. He has spent time at the college and high school levels with tremendous success. His Aurora H. S. boys and girl’s team have won 6 Colorado State titles total. His Eaglecrest H. S. teams have finished in the top 5 in the state 6 times. He has coached 24 individual State Champions, 2 National Champions, and 3 top-10 finishers at the World Junior Meet. He currently heads up the Heptathlon Junior Elite Program. He has been chosen as an Asst. Coach for the World Junior Team in 2004.
