Master Teacher Appointed

At the final faculty/staff meeting of the school year, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini announced that Middle School humanities teacher Greg Crook has been appointed the next holder of the Thomas S. Adams Master Teaching Chair.

“Greg Crook is deeply devoted to his students and serves as an inspiring role model for boys and colleagues alike,” said David. “A natural servant-leader, Greg exemplifies the qualities and characteristics we seek to instill in every Marksman, including humility, respect, integrity, compassion, courage, and honor. He connects with boys in and out of the classroom and, in just a few short years, has become a foundational fixture in the Middle School.”

After earning his B.A. from the College of William and Mary, Greg taught history for nearly 20 years at the Episcopal School of Dallas. Since joining St. Mark’s in 2018, he has taken on numerous responsibilities, participating in the Wilderness Program, Middle School Quiz Bowl, St. Mark’s Model UN, the Middle School Geography Bee, WE Charity, and the Faculty Advisory Committee. Next year, he will also serve as co-coordinator of the Middle School Community Service Program. In the classroom, Greg is known for his dynamic and creative lessons, capturing boys’ attention and imagination. Last year, he received the John H. Murrell Excellence-in-Teaching Award.

“This appointment inspires me even more to create the best learning environment possible for the boys in my classroom,” said Greg. “I am also honored to follow in the footsteps of my mentor, Rebecca Jenkins, and uphold the legacy of Tom Adams.”

The Thomas S. Adams Master Teaching Chair was given by a collective group of alumni in 2016 to honor the legacy of Tom Adams, who taught and coached at St. Mark’s for 45 years. The Chair was previously held by Rebecca Jenkins, who retired at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

Established by generous gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of the School, endowed chairs are one of the ways St. Mark’s recognizes excellence among the faculty. The School currently has 22 endowed faculty positions, including 16 Master Teaching Chairs.
