Anyone who has ever watched a varsity volleyball or baseball competition can attest to the incredible impact Daniel Sanchez has made on his respective teams. A vocal leader who pushes his teammates to be the best versions of themselves every day, Daniel exemplifies what it means to be a Marksman. His passion, emotion, and enthusiasm are contagious to others, and his tenacious work ethic is aptly complemented by his outstanding athletic talents. When the game is on the line, Daniel is quick to step up and encourage his fellow teammates to rise to the challenge. His positive, steady leadership has been invaluable to both the volleyball and baseball programs, and his energetic, uplifting attitude has certainly resonated throughout our community as one of the Super Fan Men.
Daniel has selflessly led by example and can best be described as the heart and soul of his teams. Pair that with his outstanding abilities as an athlete, and it is no surprise that Daniel was appointed to Team Captain once in volleyball and twice in baseball. What stands out the most about this exceptional student-athlete is how much he cares. While not afraid to hold those around him accountable, Daniel is also the first to pick up a fellow teammate when they are down and offer them words of encouragement. Throughout his many successes, he has always remained humble and grounded, and his magnetic personality and resolute School spirit have inspired students, coaches, and teachers alike. Daniel has continuously demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout his time here at our School, and is an exceptional role model for other Marksmen student-athletes.
Coach Darren Teicher shares how impactful Daniel has been to the St. Mark’s volleyball program:
“Daniel was a leader from day one in the volleyball program. He played with an energy that was infectious and that energy was always tempered for the moment. He always believes and makes everyone else believe that they will win the day. As a sophomore, he had a learning curve that he tackled quicker than any of the coaching staff expected. He was always trying to get better. Many kids take practice for granted, but Daniel always took the opportunity to improve his skills and try to learn something new. As the season went along, there was no way that we could justify keeping him on the bench. His contributions that year were a big reason we were able to win an SPC championship. He spent the next 2 years as an integral part of the volleyball program's success. We are going to miss him!”
Coach Johnny Hunter also raved about his time with Daniel on the baseball team:
“Daniel is an honorable, hard-working young man who gives his all every day on the baseball diamond. As one of our Senior co-Captains, Daniel’s prudent and inspiring leadership of our ball club sets the tone for our practices and games. Never one to bask in the spotlight, Daniel looks for ways to lead by example while encouraging his teammates to perform at their optimal levels. This talented pitcher, hitter, and first baseman has been a cornerstone of the Upper School baseball program for four years, and I am grateful to Daniel for his excellent contributions to our Varsity team and for being a genuine bridge-builder across the classes during his stellar St. Mark’s career. I can think of no better ambassador of our team, school, and local community.”
