For Boys & Girls, Grades 1-8
Come explore these fun New & Back By Popular Demand Camps:
Cooking, Boys and Girls, Grades 4-8
This camp will be taught by Sally Stephens, the Food Service Director at St. Mark's School of Texas. She has many years of experience teaching cooking and nutrition to children, including St. Mark's Summer Camps and Project Head Start. Campers will learn the basics of measurements, sanitation and meal planning, and the nutritional importance of fruits, vegetables, protein, and breads. Campers will learn to prepare breads, vegetable and fruit salads, side dishes, and main dishes, including vegetarian plates. They will wrap it all together with an overview of table settings and the preparation of a complete meal. Foodies will love the St. Mark's Cooking Camp!
Sewing, Boys and Girls, Grades 3-8
This summer we are again offering sewing classes for boys and girls. Sewing can be a lifetime avocation, and it shuld be fun. How many times has your Camper wanted to create something unique -- a "cool" bag, pillow, comfy pants, or a quilt? Sewing for Campers is taught by Julie Mitchell, a second grade teacher on the faculty at St. John's Episcopal who will bring the experience, patience, and a caring approach to the needs of young learners. While safety is hugely important, she also makes the world of sewing fun and productive. Each day brings new skills, confidence, and usually a product to take home. Campers will have access to excellent sewing machines along with all the other tools they will need. All fabrics, nontions, and patterns will be provided.
Nature Photography Camp, Boys and Girls, Grades 3-8
Participants in St. Mark's Nature Photography Camp will have the chance to learnt he basics of capturing the natural world through the lens of a digital camera. If your child has in interest in photography or nature this camp could serve as a springboard for a lifelong love of something that combines both science and art. Campers will learn how to create high quality images by understanding the fundamentals of photography - light, exposure, and color. In addition, they will learn how to edit and prepare today's digital image files on computer. During the camp, participants will be exposed to the three major realms of nature photography. Campers can explore producing landscape, wildlife, and macro (close up) photos. By the end of the week, each camper will have a digital portfolio which they can share with family and friends through their Flickr account.
The Nature of Things, Boys and Girls, Grades 3-8
If your child spends lots of time at the neighborhood creek, then "The Nature of Things" is the camp for him or her! Even if they are new to urban wildscapes or simply have an interest in nature, they will enjoy this natural history camp. After daily lessons in botany, zoology, geology, soils, and water, campers will have the chance to test their new knowledge on mini-adventures to local creeks and woods. Each day will follow a similar plan. For example, "Botany Day" will include an explanation of the basic plant parts, how plants "work", identification tips, plant uses, and finally, outdoor experience in identifying plants. During the week, other outdoor activities will include netting fish, identifying wildflowers, collecting insects, and fossil hunting, just to name a few. Campers should be prepared to get their hands dirty and have a great time in the process!
Welcome to Videoland, Boys and Girls, Grades 7 & 8
Do you wish you were the director of the next Harry Potter? Are you looking for your inner Spielberg? Then our new two week camp, Welcome to Videoland is the perfect class for you. It is designed as a crash course in camera technique and the basics of visual story telling. Everywhere you turn, life is being lived through video screens or monitors. If your interest is to record a moment or to fill those screens with drama, then camera technique is an important part of those stories you tell. The first week of Videoland will involve the technical and creative use of camera and the basics of audio. The second week we will record camp activities, such as lacrosse, basketball and fencing. We will also record stories from the rocketry, robotics and CSI camps. These stories will then be edited in the fall and used on the St. Mark’s website.
There's something for every interest at St. Mark's this summer!
