Reading Seminars Kick Off School Year

While classes officially begin tomorrow, the St. Mark’s campus is already bustling with students attending orientations and, for Upper School students, the Summer Reading Seminar. The Seminar allows students to read a book handpicked by a faculty or staff member. As always, this year’s reading list was an eclectic mix of genres and titles, including World War Z, The Crucible, and even Damn Few, written by 2014 Commencement Speaker and Navy SEAL Rorke Denver.

Today, students met with the faculty or staff member whose book they chose for an in-depth literary discussion. To keep the Seminars interesting, students aren’t told who their leader will be. Across campus, discussions were lead by teachers, administrators, coaches, and even the Headmaster, who selected David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell.
