Lions Sports Update 10/09

The Varsity Football team traveled to Oakridge on Thursday night. The Owls started out strong, jumping out to a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Lions were resilient and answered back with 2 Justin Jones ’15 TD runs in the second quarter. A Grant Brooks ’17 41 yard FG as time expired gave the Lions a 17-14 lead going into halftime. Jones started the second half scoring with a 27 yard TD run, but Oakridge quickly answered with a TD of their own to keep it close (24-21) after 3 quarters. The Lions finally got themselves some breathing room when Matthew Placide ’16 hit Case Brabham ’15 for a 8 yard TD, and Jones capped off his great night with a 34 yard TD run with just under a minute to play which sealed the victory for the Lions. Jones finished the night with 193 yards rushing on 27 carries and 4 TDs, while Placide pitched in 152 yards and a TD through the air. The Lions are back at home this Friday when they will host Trinity Valley at 7 pm.

The Varsity Volleyball team played 2 road games last week, traveling to Ft. Worth to play Trinity Valley on Tuesday and then playing the Texas Boys Volleyball Association Club team at their club facility in Addison on Thursday. The Lions won both matches 3-0, and are looking good as they enter the toughest part of SPC counter season. They host Trinity Valley on Tuesday at 6:30 pm and then will travel to Greenhill to play the Hornets on their Homecoming night this Friday.

The Cross Country team had the weekend off. They will travel to Houston to compete in the St. John’s “Ramble” this Saturday.
