Lions Sports Update 04/01

Golf
The Lions golf team took on Parish Episcopal on Thursday.  The 6 players who went put up a dominating performance, winning the match 6-0.
Match #1: Cameron Clark ‘16 (SM) defeated Gregory Imhoff (Parish) 1 Up
Match #2: Weston Blair ‘15 (SM) defeated Hadi Iqbal (Parish ) 3 & 1
Match #3: Sam Clayman ‘17 (SM) defeated Nic Alders (Parish) 5 & 3
Match #4: Nick Chaiken ’17 (SM) defeated Nathan Levine (Parish) 4 & 3
Match #5: Devan Prabhakar ‘17 (SM) defeated Conor Horowitz (Parish) 2 Up
Match #6: Kyle Campbell ‘15 (SM) defeated Tony DeBruyn (Parish) 4 & 3

Water Polo
The Varsity Water Polo team competed in the Denton Shootout. The team won both its games on the way to winning the tournament championship, defeating Flower Mound (18-3) and Denton (17-7) along the way.  The Junior Varsity team, playing in the Open Division, also won the tournament beating Grapevine (15-5) and Colleyville Heritage (12-8).  The Varsity will travel to The Woodlands this weekend to compete in the Allison Maloney Invitational which will allow the Lions to see some of the best teams from the Houston and San Antonio regions. 

Lacrosse
The Varsity lacrosse team played their toughest competition last week in losses to Jesuit (7-9) and Episcopal School of Dallas (9-11). Despite the losses, the team continues to improve and move in the right direction. Bright spots were the play of Faceoff man, Riley Graham ‘14 and Goalie, Connor Mullen ‘15. This week the team has two important district games, both at home, vs. Plano West (Monday, March 31) and Southlake (Wednesday, April 2). Both games will determine eligibility for the playoffs.

Baseball
The Varsity Baseball team traveled to Fort Worth Country Day on Tuesday, March 25 for the third counter match of the season. After falling behind 5-2 in the 4th inning, St. Mark's stormed back putting up an amazing 13 runs in the top of the 5th inning. The team held on to the 10-run lead and ended up run-ruling FWCD, 15-5, in 5 innings. On Saturday, March 29, the Lions played at non-conference foe Trinity Christian Academy. The Lions turned in a terrific team effort and won a hard-fought contest, 6-4. The Lions are now 2-1 in the SPC North Zone and look to improve against Cistercian at home Tuesday, April 1 at 4:30 p.m.

Tennis
The Varsity Tennis team began its counter match season with wins over All-Saints (4-1) and FWCD (5-0). Last week, the top-2 singles players and top-2 doubles teams participated in the Jesuit Classic, a one-day tournament, featuring Jesuit, Greenhill, Highland Park, and the Lions. Senior Sam Khoshbin ’14 earned 3rd place in the singles draw, and the doubles team of sophomores Anvit Reddy ’16 and Albert Thieu ’16 finished 4th in doubles play. This week, the team takes on SPC foe, Cistercian (Tuesday, April 1) and non-conference opponent, Jesuit (on Friday, April 4).
