Lions Sports Update 03/06

Baseball
 
The Varsity Baseball team is off to a great start of the season.  After dropping the first game of the season 2-7 to Pantego Christian, the team beat Bishop Lynch 11-1 highlighted by a grand slam by senior Mac Labhart ’14 on Tuesday, March 4 and then beat Bishop Dunne 7-0 on Saturday, March 1 behind some stellar pitching by senior Jeffrey Wu ’14. They play this Thursday, March 6 through Saturday, March 8 in the Cowtown Classic hosted by Trinity Valley and All Saints.
 
Lacrosse
 
The Varsity Lacrosse team is off to a 3-0 start under the direction of new coach Francis Donald ’03.  After traveling to St. Stephen’s (Austin) and getting a 12-3 win in the first game of the year, the team returned to Dallas to play their first two home games.  On Feb. 25, they beat conference foe Ft. Worth Country Day by a score of 13-1, and then last night they beat Allen High School by a score of 9-4.  They play again this Thursday, March 6 at home against Coppell, and then travel to the east coast to take on some of the best teams in Baltimore to kick off spring break.
 
Tennis
 
The Varsity Tennis team is off to a nice start to the year, having defeated Southwest Preparatory Conference rival Episcopal School of Dallas and losing close matches to Parish Episcopal and UIL powerhouse Highland Park High School.  Senior Captain Sam Khoshbin ’14 has earned a record of 2-1 playing #1 singles. Several underclassmen have stepped up their level of play with sophomores Will Hardage ’16, Will Garden ’16, and Anvit Reddy ’16 all playing in pivotal spots for the Lions. After Spring Break, the team will begin their SPC Counter Match season.
 
Water Polo
 
The Varsity Water Polo team had a successful first weekend of the season as they played several large schools at the Lewisville ISD Natatorium in The Colony.  The first took on Denton High School and won 15-4, and they finished up with a 17-1 win over Denton – Ryan.  Over spring break the team will be doing some high altitude training in Park City, Utah, and will return to play at the Dutton Memorial Tournament in Southlake on March 22 & 23.
 
Crew 
 
The Varsity Crew team traveled to Austin to row in the Heart of Texas Regatta against the best crews the state has to offer.  In less than ideal conditions on the water, the Varsity Quad made up of Luke Hudspeth ’15, Cameron Baxley ’14, Alex McKenna ’14, and Nick Brodsky ’14 came in 3rd place, and the Varsity Double (Hudspeth and Baxley) came in 4th.  In the only local crew event, the team will row on Saturday, April 5th in the Bachman Lake Annual Sprint Trials.
