Fall Sports Preview

As a new school year dawns and boys return to campus, students-turned-athletes will put on the St. Mark’s navy and gold once again to compete as Lions.

Cross Country, coming off a runner-up finish in SPC last year – their third second place finish in five years, – will have some extra motivation to push them towards a championship season. New training methods, such as a team trip to the hill country, will certainly benefit the team’s readiness. The team’s first meet, the Greenhill Relays, will be held August 25th at Norbuck Park starting at a fresh 8:30 AM.

Fencing, under the new leadership of head coach Michael Kim, looks forward to competing in the team’s scheduled meets and improving every day through diligent practice. Rodney Chen, a 2012 St. Mark’s graduate and former MVP recipient of the fencing team, will fence for Princeton University this fall.

Football, having completed two-a-days, looks ahead to a new season with new opponents: this year’s team will play SPC opponents Cistercian, All Saints, and Oakridge on the gridiron for the first time in years. Coming off a 7-2 season and 3rd place SPC finish, the St. Mark’s football squad has high hopes for another successful season.

Volleyball, having established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the SPC, relishes the opportunity to challenge for the SPC title once again. Last year’s valiant runner-up effort in the SPC tournament remains fresh on the minds of this year’s team members. The first home match will take place on September 14th at 5:30 PM against Greenhill, the defending SPC champions.
