7th Grader Awarded Community Service Grant

Trevor Burke ’19 was awarded a Disney Friends for Change Youth Grant through Youth Service America to support a conservation project that Trevor is spearheading.

As part of Global Youth Service Day, Trevor led a team of volunteers in helping to preserve the nearly extinct Blackland Prairie eco-region bordering the cities of Plano and Allen, Texas. This summer, Trevor will release hundreds of threatened Northern Bobwhite Quail in various prairies across North Texas in an attempt to populate the Blackland Prairies with native Texas birds.

Global Youth Service Day, a campaign of Youth Service America (YSA), is the largest service event in the world, involving millions of young people in more than 135 countries. The grant was awarded through YSA by Disney Friends for Change, a multi-platform initiative that inspires kids and families to join together and make a positive impact on their world by helping people, communities, and the planet.
