Andres earned ALL North Zone accolades by finishing 9th overall. Daniel Cope ’17 and Seth Weprin ’19 finished 4th and 7th overall to also earn All North Zone accolades. Also running PR’s were Tyler Nussbaumer ’20, Michael Lukowicz ’19, Luke Evangelist ’20, Mujin Kwun ’19, Ayush Saha ’19 and Russell Wilner ’10. Next up for the Runnin’ Lions is the intrasquad race on Friday, Oct 28 to determine the top 10 runner who will represent SM at the SPC Championships on Nov. 5 in Austin, TX.

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team played 2 home matches last week. On Wednesday, they played FWCD in a friendly match, winning 3-1. On Friday, the Lions hosted St. John’s in the Homecoming game. The Lions won games one and two, but St. John’s stormed back to take games three and four. In the 5th and deciding game, the Lions regrouped and behind the hitting of Toussaint Pegues ’18, Jacob Hum ’17, and Killian Green ’17, were able to secure the victory in front of the Homecoming crowd. The Lions finished the SPC south zone counter season with an 8-0 record (14-7 overall) and secured the #1 seed in the south zone at the upcoming SPC tournament on November 4th and 5th. This week the Lions have two tune up matches against SPC north zone teams (Tuesday @ TVS and Thursday vs. Greenhill).

Football
The varsity football team hosted St. John’s (Houston) in the 2016 Homecoming game. While the Lions played their opponents tough in the first half, they were unable to get into the end zone and fell behind 0-20 at the end of the first half. The Lions regrouped and in the first drive of the 2nd half, Will Forbes ’18 connected with Ryan Warner ’19 for a 13 yard TD that got the Lions back in the game. Unfortunately the team lost Ryan Warner shortly thereafter to a knee injury. The Lions had several great chances in the second half for big plays, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. Final score: St. Mark’s 7 – St. John’s 41. In the final game of the 2016 season, the Lions will travel to ESD on Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
Bear Goldstein ’13 was recently named captain of the Princeton Lacrosse team. This will be his second year as captain…which has only happened 4 other times in the last 20 years at Princeton. Read more about it HERE.

The matchup of former Marksmen in the NFL on Thursday turned out to be very entertaining. On the Green Bay offense, Ty Montgomery ’11 took most the of the snaps for the Packers at running back due to several injuries to other Packer RBs. He did not disappoint. Ty had 9 rushes for 60 yards and caught 10 passes for 66 points at a position that he has rarely played since his middle school days at St. Mark’s. On the Chicago defense, Sam Acho ’07 played 59% of the defensive snaps for the Bears, recording 1 solo tackle, 2 assisted tackles, 2 QB hits, and 1 pass defense. The Packers won the game 26-10. View some of Ty’s highlights from the game HERE.
