Lions Sports Update 10/11

Cross Country
The cross country team participated in the Carroll Dragon XC Classic in Southlake this past weekend. The varsity team ran in the lone varsity race offered and was matched up against some of the best runners in the area. The race was competitive but not extremely fast because of the big rainstorm on Friday which left the course muddy and soggy. The team finished a respectable 15th out of 34 teams. The team was led by Daniel Cope ’17 who finished with a time of 16:19 over the 5K course. He was followed by Seth Weprin ’19, Sam Shane ’18, Scott Smythe ’17, Emmett Berger ’19, Cole Duffy ’19 and Jayan Joshi ’19.  The JV Team finished 6th in their race. They were led by George Lamb ’19, Tyler Nussbaumer ’20 (first race of the year), and Andre Arsenault ’18. This week the team will not have any competitions but will train and prepare for the SPC North Zone Meet on October 21.

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team played three matches last week. On Wednesday, the Lions traveled to the Sportsplex to take on a strong Texas Boys Volleyball Association team. The Lions and TBVA went back and forth all match, needing a 5th game to decide the winner. The Lions prevailed, winning the match 3-2 in exciting fashion. On Friday, the team traveled to Greenhill to play on their homecoming. In front of a big crowd, the team fought hard, but fell to Greenhill 1-3. Then on Saturday, the Lions hosted Kinkaid in an SPC south zone counter game. The Lions won the match 3-0 and are now 7-0 in SPC counter play. The team travels to Ft. Worth Country Day this Friday and Saturday to play in the FWCD Tournament.

Football
The varsity football team traveled back to Houston on Friday to take on Houston Christian. The Lions led the game in first downs and total yards, but 6 turnovers proved costly as Houston Christian continued to benefit from good field position. The final score was St. Mark’s 17 – Houston Christian 42. Will Forbes ’18 led the Lions with 267 yards passing and 1 TD, Jonathan Taylor ’19 added 47 yards rushing, and Rish Basu ’17 caught 8 passes for 89 yards. Seun Omonije ’18 scored twice (one run and on reception) and Grant Brooks ’17 kicked at 23 yard FG. Next up, the Lions host the Texas Alliance of Christian Athletes this Friday at 7:00 p.m.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
