Marksmen Named Eagle Scouts

On September 18, 2016, St. Mark’s Boy Scouts of America Troop 730 held a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor, awarding six scouts the highest attainable rank in the program. Four Marksmen, Sahit Dendekuri ’19, Parker Kirby ’17, Nehemiah McGowan ’17, and Kannan Sharma ’18, were among the new Eagle Scouts.

“On the path to Eagle, the words in the Scout Oath and Law were simple, but collectively they became words to live by,” said Nehemiah. “These principles, along with others, made Scouting more than what I do, but rather who I am and what I will become.”

To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, each boy has to complete a special community project. This year’s Eagle Scout Projects included designing and painting murals for a small Hindu temple, building a sandbox, bookshelves, benches for churches, and designing a pair of movable shoe stands for a local Sai Center.

“Becoming an Eagle Scout transcends the checked boxes in my book and the patches I have on my sash,” said Sahit. “And while if you ask me ten years from now how to tie a trucker’s knot or identify 15 different types of poisonous plants, I may not have an answer for you. I can tell you what it takes to be to be a good man, friend, citizen, leader, and father.”
