Lions Spots Update 09/20

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team started the week with a loss (0-3) to crosstown rival Greenhill. On Friday, they bounced back, earning an SPC South Zone victory (3-1) over Episcopal High School from Houston. On Saturday, the Lions hosted a tri-match with St. Stephen’s from Austin, and Casady from Oklahoma City. In the first match against St. Stephen’s, the Lions controlled the game from start to finish, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-17). In the second match against Casady, the Lions dropped the match 0-3, but all 3 games were within 2 or 3 points. This week, the team will travel to FWCD on Wednesday to play a non-counter SPC friendly match and then travel to Kinkaid (Houston) on Friday night for an SPC South Zone matchup which is played prior to the St. Mark’s varsity football game at Kinkaid.

Football
The varsity football team hosted SPC football powerhouse Episcopal High School (Houston) in an SPC 4A matchup. The Knights struck early and capitalized on several Lion turnovers, taking a 35-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Lions struggled to get into a groove offensively, with a 40 yard field goal by Grant Brooks ’17 accounting for the Lions’ only score of the night. Hill Washburn ’18 led the Lions in passing yards (70), Jonathan Taylor ’19 led in rushing (52), and Ryan Warner ’19 had the most receiving yards (70). The Lions travel to Houston this Friday to play another tough SPC 4A team in the Kinkaid Falcons.
