Lion Sports Update 09/06

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team traveled to Austin to play St. Stephen’s on Saturday. This is St. Stephen’s inaugural season in SPC boys volleyball and they had a very good turnout for their new team. The Lions relied on experience and depth to get the victory, beating the Spartans 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-17). The team will travel to Trinity Valley on Wednesday and then to Houston on Friday to compete in the Houston Cup Tournament.

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team enjoyed a successful weekend at the Marcus I Invitational this past weekend. St Mark’s ran three different squads in three different races. The “A” Team ran in the elite race with many nationally/state ranked teams in the race. The Lions ran very well, finishing 22 out of 38 schools. The team was led by Senior Daniel Cope who finished 23rd overall with a time of 16:16. He was followed by Seth Weprin ’19, Scott Smythe ’17, Sam Shane ’18, Nolan Jenevein ’17, Emmett Berger ’19, and Jayan Joshi ’19. The second team ran in the Open Race and the third team ran in the Junior Varsity race with both teams seeing big improvement and setting many PR’s (personal records). This coming weekend the Lions travel to St. Andrew’s to run a race on the SPC Course and compete against 14 other SPC Schools in an early preview of the Championships Meet in November.

Football
The varsity football team had their bye this past week. They travel to Oklahoma City on Friday to take on the Casady Cyclones (7:30 p.m. start).
