Throughout the summer break, Marksmen athletes have continued going strong.

This past weekend, Nicolas Gomez ’22 and Adrian Lutgen ’24 competed in the 2016 Long Course Texas Age Group Swimming championships, a USA Swimming event. Nicolas made the finals in six events and took first place in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. He is now ranked in the top 20 nationally for those two events. In overall points, he placed second in the meet. Adrian made the finals in the 100 breaststroke and got eleventh place overall.

Recent graduate Cameron Clark ’16 competed in the Veritex Bank Texas State Open golf tournament by finishing seventh out of 46 in the qualifying round. Drew Taylor ’16 spent his summer at the USRowing Junior National Team’s Selection Camp, where some of the best rowers in the nation tryout for the chance to compete in the world championship. After several intense rounds of erg testing and on-the-water racing, Drew earned a spot among the final 16 rowers. Later this month, he and his teammates will travel to the Junior World Championship in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

With Olympic fever upon us, several Marksmen were honored to qualify for the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics 14U team in San Jose this summer. The Trident Water Polo Club team, comprised almost exclusively of Marksmen, had a strong showing. Tim Simenc ’15 returned to his alma mater to help coach the team.

Back on campus, the Lions are looking ahead to the fall football season with two-a-days beginning in the Norma & Lamar Hunt Family Stadium. Come cheer on the Lions in their opening varsity football game against Greenhill on Friday, August 26. St. Mark’s families will also be celebrating Lion Pride Night before the game.
