Lion Sports Update 10/19

Football
The varsity football team hosted the Texas Alliance for Christian Athletes on Friday night. The Lions started very strong after Luke Rogers ’17 had a great punt return to set up an early TD reception by Rish Basu ’17. The defense had two early interceptions, one which was returned for a TD by Seun Omonije ’18, and the Lions had a 28-0 lead after 1 quarter. The defense played tough all game and was able to hold TACA scoreless. Final score: Lions 49 – TACA 0. Will Forbes ’18 was 7 for 10 passing with 3 TDs (all of which were to Basu), Colin Neuhoff ’19 led the team in rushing with 85 yards and 1 TD, and Rish Basu touched the ball 4 times on offense (3 receptions and 1 rush) and each time he scored a touchdown. The Lions look to ride this momentum into the Homecoming game this Friday night at 7 pm against St. John’s.

Volleyball
Th varsity volleyball team played several games in the Ft. Worth Country Day round robin tournament this Friday and Saturday. The team dropped both games on Friday to FWCD and Casady, rebounded in their first game on Saturday to beat TVS, and then fell to Greenhill in their final game. The team has 2 home games this week, hosting FWCD on Wednesday (6:00 p.m.) and then St. John’s on Friday (5:00 p.m.) as part of the Homecoming festivities.

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team took this past weekend off to prepare for the SPC North Zone which is this Friday at 1:00 p.m. at MoneyGram Park. This is the last official race prior to the SPC Championships in Austin on November 5.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
Ty Montgomery ’11 had a big day for the Green Bay Packers against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Ty took more snaps as a running back and was effective, especially on catching balls out of the backfield. Ty totaled 10 receptions for 98 yards, 3 rushes for 6 yards, and 2 kick returns for 64 yards for the game. The Packers will host the Chicago Bears and fellow Marksman, Sam Acho ‘07, this Thursday night.
