ReMarker is Best

The ReMarker was named “Best High School Newspaper” in the Metroplex March 10 by The Dallas Morning News. The ReMarker competed with over 80 North Texas-area schools with less than 2,000 student population. Winners were announced at the News’ annual High School Journalism Day conference held on the campus of Southern Methodist University.

 

Additionally, eight ReMarker staff members were recognized for their individual work. They are:

Sam Mallick - first place, news writing; honorable mention, page design

Aaron Campbell - first place, sports news writing; honorable mention, sports feature writing

Christian Larrave - first place, artwork/illustrations

Adam Eichenwald and Max Marshall - honorable mention, special project coverage

Zach Wolfe - review writing

Dean Itani - feature writing

John Michel - honorable mention, editorial writing

 

Editor of The ReMarker is senior Zach Wolfe. Other editorial board members include Sam Mallick, managing editor; John Michel, editorial director; Shibi Kannan, issues editor; Shashwat Samudra, special projects editor; Matt Miller, head photographer, and Adam Eichenwald, senior writer.

 

Page editors include Dean Itani and Blake Montgomery, news; Andrew Dorsaneo and Spencer Heim, scene and Aaron Campbell and L.C. Chandler, sports. Graphics are coordinated by Chris Kim, Robert Toto, and Christian Larrave, while business manager John Montgomery and assistants Tom Duffy and Will Golden handle advertising and financial matters. Reece Cannady and Jordan Young serve as copy editors.

Finalists in the competition heard presentations from News’ writers, designers, and photographers during the all day event. Keynote speaker was Associated Press reporter Michael Graczyk of Houston, who shared stories of witnessing more than 300 death row prisoners put to death in Huntsville.
