This past weekend seniors Tom Ferenc and David Lee had an outstanding showing at the Tournament of Champions (TOC) held annually in Lexington, Kentucky. Tom and David won five of their seven preliminary debates including wins over top ten teams Bishop Guertin (NH) and Woodward Academy (GA). In the partial double octafinals Tom and David won on a 2-1 decision over a Groves High School (MI). Advancing to the TOC's sweet sixteen Ferenc and Lee were defeated by Greenhill's team of Matt Andrews and Stephen Polley. Debate coach Tim Mahoney commented, "It was a really impressive peformance by David and Tom to cap a great season. In addition, to their two wins over top ten teams in the preliminary rounds all of their losses were to teams who went on to make the elimination rounds including Westminster (GA) who made it to the quarters, Lexington (MA) semifinalists, and Greenhill the eventual tournament champions who didn't lose a debate during the entire tournament. Since their success at the Redlands and Montgomery Bell Academy tournaments I've felt like David and Tom were a top twenty team and at the TOC they proved they belong in that elite company."
