As part of the yearlong Centennial Celebration, the weekend included the Homecoming Kickoff Reception on Friday evening on campus in the A. Earl Cullum, Jr., Alumni Commons, a meeting of the Board of Trustees on Saturday morning, followed by on campus activities for alumni and their families and finally Class Reunion events on Saturday night. Three St. Mark’s teams competed at the J.J. Pearce Latin Tournament on Sunday, January 8 in the Upper, Lower, and Novice categories. All three teams reached the finals with the Upper and Lower teams winning their divisions and the Novice team coming in second place, in their first ever competition, to a team from Highland Park.

This past weekend the St. Mark's debate squad travelled to the University of Texas to compete in both novice and varsity debate. In the varsity division five St. Marks teams competed against over 100 teams from throughout the country with the sophomores showing they will be a force to be reckoned with for the next two years and the seniors proving they are already among the top twenty teams in the country.

While the winter season finished with a disappointing cancellation of the SPC tournament due to inclement weather, St. Mark’s athletes equipped themselves exceptionally well with honors across the board.

Homecoming 2003 marked several firsts for St. Mark’s. Two events of major significance occurred including the first ever Class Reunion Campaign and the first ever Fiftieth Class Reunion.

St. Mark’s School of Texas announced on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, that 18 members of the senior class have been recognized as National Merit Finalists. Twenty-one percent of the 82-member Class of 2004 received the prestigious honor.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program announced on January 21, 2004 that three Marksmen from the Class of 2004 have been named Finalists in their annual academic competition for Black American high school students.

A number of graduating seniors have been actively recruited and plan to pursue intercollegiate athletics next year. Several Marksmen from the Class of 2004 have made preliminary commitments to compete at some of our nation’s top Colleges and Universities.

St. Mark’s Life Skills Program is once again hosting FCD Educational Services to work with our community during the week of February 2-6. FCD (Freedom from Chemical Dependency) is a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts that provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education and awareness for schools and colleges.

Congratulations are in order for 17 Marksmen who were recently selected for the All-State Band and Orchestra by The Texas Private School Music Educators Association. Boys traveled to San Antonio January 29-31 to perform in the All-State Concert.

After competing successfully in the Dallas county tournament late in the fall at the University of Texas at Dallas, St. Mark’s BEST robotics team carried their robot to the Southwest Regional Championships in Austin for the second straight year to compete against teams from the Southwestern U.S.

In a special section of the January 4th issue of The Dallas Morning News, the SportsDay staff chose local athletes for All-Area and All-District Teams. Marksmen athletes were named in Football, Water Polo, and Volleyball.
